how can i put my home movies on to my computer to burn to dvd?

my father is wanting to know how to do this. he just bought an apple mac computer which has alot of power and hard disk space for transfering all his home movies (which are all on those small cassetes, they are not digital casseetes. they are the old school ones from 15 years ago) to dvd format. so how can he do this? so the movie would have to be played through the camera in order to capture it on the computer or run it through the vcr and connect it that way? we are in no mans land about this... any pointers out there? appreciate it.. cheers

what you could do is go out and buy a dvd burner for the your tv, it also is a dvd player, from frys or walmart for 70 dollars and connect the camera directly to it and hit play on the camera and record on the dvd burner. That is the easiest route, and the least time consuming.

If you don't decide to take that path you would have to get a separate device. i.e. dazzle, so that you can connect the camera directly to your mac, which i do and i have a mac as well, it comes with its own software, but before you buy it make sure it is make compatible.

The best way to accomplish this and have the end result end up in a digital format that you can burn to DVD or other mediums is to buy an analog capture device. Apple sells one on their website and at their stores that is quite good. It is the Canopus ADVC110 Digital Video Converter. Here is a link:
