That's a Coolant Temperature Sensor fault.

    Nothing terribly serious.

Because the Coolant Temp Sensor and Air Temp Sensor sort of work Together "comparing notes" of what each are signalling the ECU/computer....

A Faulty THERMOSTAT can also Trigger a #14 because the actual Coolant Sensor gets a False Signal from the water temperature.

Other causes can only be wiring between the CTS & ECU,

    Usually Corroded Connections.

Most Likely it's the Coolant Temp Sensor itself.

You Can Test it with an Ohmmeter.

I cannot recall the actual specs.

But around Freezing,,32*F it should be around 5~6,000 Ohms

    And Boiling,,212*F,,,around 200 Ohms

Normal Operating Temps,,,around 190*200* area is should be about 250 Ohms.

A "Quick Check" usually tells the tale "good enough".

Meaning,,, If it's Open or Shorted,,,it's Bad

    Zero Ohms,,or Infinite Resistance.

The thing looks like any typical Coolant Tend Sensor,,and is mounted near the Thermostat Housing on the Engine----where the Top radiator Hose goes into engine.

It has 2 wires going into it's connector block

Here's what it looks like,,,You can change the View via the lil selection box beneath the photo.

This is pictured almost "actual size",,,so You have a "more/less" idea of what You're looking for.

    Autozone also may have one

    http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP14763/store,1489/s...

Most any Auto Parts store should have one,,or be able to get it overnight.

    ........................................

Its VERY Simple to Replace it Yourself,,if you're into doing your own work.

Or,,,ANY shop can do it for Minimum Charges (Or Should)

If You Do it Yourself.....Use a good thread Sealer Compound.

I prefer Teflon Tape on such items.

Electrical Grounding issues from Sealer or Tape is NOT a Problem,,it's a 2 wire Sensor & 1 is Ground.

After Changing it,,,,The Fault Code may continue.

That means ECU must be reset/Cleared.

I appologize ,,cuz I Cannot recall which Fuse needs Removing to clear the ECU.

"The Hard Way" always works though---Disconnect the Battery a few minutes.

Radio Presets and Security Code get Lost,,,either way.

    MEANWHILE,,,,

You wont hurt anything to Drive it As-Is.

You Will get a reduction in performance and economy however.

The Range of it's Influence is Not enough to cause catCon overheating or any such secondary probs.

The thing goes into "failsafe mode" and sets all the calibrations at Default Levels which are "safe" to operate the car with.

    ............................................................

It's 90% Odds the Sensor IS bad,,

But it's perhaps Wise to Check it to Verify it Is bad

"Cold engine" is gonna be around 4~5~6,000 Ohms

"Hot Engine" is gonna be 200~400 Ohms

"Reality" is somehwere between those two,,,depending upon actual temps.

VCM Display threatening "FUEL FAIL!!!!" is a Lot more worrisome than the Actual Prob.

It's Not any big problem at all.

    Good Luck
