I am a new Nascar fan, and I was wondering what exactly is it that makes someone a doninant racer? What makes someone a top 10 racer, that others don't have? What specific skills are they better at then the other racers? Or is it just the car, or the crew, and the driver doesn't matter that much? Thanks all!

There are so many variables, what it really comes down to is Equipment, Driver and Crew Chief Communication, and adjustability in the car. With the elite teams no matter where they start and even if they struggle throughout the first part of the race. If they can communicate with their team and adjust the car. They always will wind up in the top 10.
I got your e-mail, the driver is also pretty important. The drivers of these cars are tremendously talented. There have been a few instances, where one of the less successful drivers (K. Wallace) was put into a elite ride (Kurt Busch's) and he finished around 40th. So obviously he doesnt have the talent Busch has. But like I said, most of the best drivers have had long or really good relationships with the Chief. In which case the Crew Chief understands what the Driver needs or his worries. So like I said its a number of things.

then you need the best chasis builders to build them
then you need the best engine builders to build there engines
then you need the best crew chief and mechanics to put them all together
then you need the best crew chief to figure out and implement the best set up such as shocks and springs and camber
then you need a driver smart enough to get around the track in the fastest way
then you need a pit crew to change tires and make changes to the car as the track changes during the race
