The role of men is rather typical to any men’s role in other society at that time. Women role includes handling women affair such as education in all girls school. They have more significant role if they are from a royal family. The ruler can’t choose his wife by himself. His mother has a lot to say about it.

I assume you realize the Muslim world was already divided by the 15th century. The Arabs were forced out of Granada in 1492. On the other hand, the Turks conquered Constantinople in 1453. The Arabs of Andalusia had always have a reputation of more significant role for women in the society. Famous Muslim women in Andalusia include:

    - Princess Wallada: She was also a poet. & poets played an important role in Arabic culture. At the time when people had no radio or TV poem was the mean for mass communication. So, Wallada was like the Opera Winfrey of Andalusia.

    - Taroob: Her story is little similar to Cinderella. She was a maidservant. The great caliph Abdurrahman III had fall in love with her. After some drama, they got married, & she became the 1st lady.

    - Queen Subh: Her husband was the caliph of Cordova. When he died he left an 11 year old heir. The royal court established a council of 3 men, who are not members of the royal family to manage the country. Queen Subh worked with one of those men to possess more power. She succeeded with Al-Mansour to eliminate the other competitors.

Anyways, those women lived earlier than the 15th century.

After the various Mongol invasions Muslim societies had been significantly weakened. When several Turkic tribes (finally the Ottomans) attacked out of Central Asia, they could not defend themselves. But they could convert the Turks to Islam.

I'm afraid I have to say that the role of women in Turkish society was subordinate, as it had been in the earlier Arab and Hebrew societies in the region (and as it was in fact in Christian Europe, Provencsal poets to the contrary).
