questions about tattoo 1. unsighty hair 2. constant exposure to UV?
planning to get one on my hairy calf, would it look unsighty once the hairs grow back? i live in tropic which would put my tattoo under the constant exposure of sun light, how would i avoid it after hearing so many comments about tattoo's no.1 enemy, the UV..please advise..

well, my very hairy husband has a shark on his leg...it looks fine..just, well, hairy! He is also a sun worshiper, and I would say the hair might have been a protectant from the tattoo fading :). No hair=mo' fade. lol...gl!

First off to combat the sun damage there are a number of products made to protect the tattoo however you could always use excessive amounts of sunscreen with high spf. Just make sure either way you reapply them frequently, and don't forget all tattoos fade, but many artists offer free or cheap touch-ups on their own work. In terms of hair I have hair on mine, I don't know the exact amount of hair you have but I've got a fair amount and on my tattoo it doesn't look too bad, though I do generally clear the area pretty frequently as I prefer it to look that way but I've seen some on forearms or lightly hairy calves that even with the hair on there still looked pretty slick. While it's expensive something to consider is laser hair removal on just the area you're thinking of doing, often it won't remove all of the hair rather just thin it, it takes multiple treatments usually to totally kill off the hair. Thinning the area might be what you want in this case, that or you could try waxing which is not only temporary, though it can hold off regrowth for awhile, but it also can be done for little money.
I personally like tattoo goo products so you should check out the tattoo goo color guard product. The website is simply tattoogoo.com. Best of luck!

Constant exposure to UV rays will give tattoo ink a faded kind of look after a while - black will have a charcoal gray kind of color, etc. My hubby's tribal is now charcoal gray from sun exposure. I've seen some tattoos that after years of sun exposure, the lines will even look a bit blurry. Then again, that could merely be the natural process of the body breaking down the inks over time.
As for the hair...that's all a matter of personal preference. lol

Ok, my roommate had one on the back of his shin, he's a pretty hairy guy and it didn't look bad or block vision of the tattoo at all. Also, you should be using sun block always, but definitely do not use higher than spf 30 because that is a chemical block which is bad for you, anything spf 30 and under is a physical block which will do the trick if reapplied often enough.
