My mother recently had a heart valve replacement natural not mechanical. She was great for awhile. Yesterday

left face numbness and dizzyness. She went to the hospital and was admitted. They say it was probably a TIA. They put her on Plavix and are doing tests right now. Will the plavix interfere with her arthritis drugs such as daypro and prednisone? Any suggestions or comments welcome. I am military and live away from her but I am the most health care savy and the whole family comes to me for information because I am an OR tech but this is a little out of my arena. What information should I give to my father who is a nervous nelly.

Update:

I know that did a ct today and an echo due to the heart valve replacement. her symptoms did resolve re: the left weakness and numbness in left face. She did complain of a headache and they are checking that out. so far nothing reported on the scan

Update 2:

Oh she will follow doctors instructions but has a hard time asking questions when she does not understand what they are doing or why. makes it difficult but at least she signed for the doc to talk to me

She is getting the right treatment. Hopefully, she has also had a CT scan of her head. TIA's are often precursors to a stroke and the symptoms can resolve. It is important that she do everything her doctor tells her when she is discharged because even with the plavix, another stroke can occur but the plavix lessens this possibility. She might be lucky because she got treatment immediately and will have no residual problems from this first TIA.

Well one of the draw backs to a mechancial valve would be that your friend would have to be on blood thinners for life. Biological, you would worry about rejection. But, you would worry about rejection with the mechanical also. Depends on what type of after care he/she is willing to put up with. I would probably choose the mechanical.
