What do you think about Jackie Robinson's number being retired by all teams?
First off, I am in no way a racist, and I DO agree that Jackie Robinson was great Hall of Fame player, he deserves all the credit in the world for being the first black major league player, putting up with all the critisim he receieved. He deserves for his number to be retired. I just think that he should have only been retired by the Dodgers seeing that he never played for any other team.
And do you think that MLB should retire Babe Ruth's number on every team, I mean, he MADE baseball what it is basically.
And yes I do also agree that he was a huge part in American history, I greatly respect Jackie Robinson. Please read my whole question before answering.

#42 wasn't retired by all teams -- it was retired by Major League Baseball, the overseeing body. All 30 teams acknowledge it. Subtle difference.
I thought it was a ham-handed manner of tribute to Robinson -- and so, a rather standard Selig tactic, well-intended, warm, fuzzy, and klutzoid. But, well, what is done is done. And once was enough -- no other player has ever had the impact Jackie did (not even Babe), and as long as MLB never repeats the gesture for anyone else*, it doesn't bother me. Robinson was a great player and a pioneer and represented his team and his sport well.
* If ever there is a woman player in MLB, she might end up being worthy of a similar honor. But I don't expect that barrier ever to fall.

I think it was great. It was a huge event not just in baseball but american history. As for the retiring the babes number throughout baseball.....maybe. He may not have had the same genre of impact Robinson did, but after the black Sox scandal he did pretty much save the game. He gave people a reason to come out and cheer. Then again he wasn't hated and marginalized Like Robinson dealing with slews of death threats etc... A good argument can be made for Babe but in the end it's just not the same. Robinson deserves recognition far beyond the accolades he's received.

Jackie Robinson was influential in baseball at a crucial time in American history Thats why all teams retired his jersey not just because he was the first black MLB player He was also an excellent player whose career was cut short only by age (he was 28 as a rookie and played just 10 seasons He probably would played five more if he'd been signed earlier)

But Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the MLB. This was very important to the sport and set the way for African Amerian players. I agree with every MLB team to have his number retired.

I think the MLB retired it for every team because it was a big move for all of baseball, not just the Dodgers.

Nice tribute to Jackie. Same should be done for Larry Doby...as he paved the way in the A.L. Yeah, it's that meaningful and important in American History. Es verdad?

I think its a great thing that his number was retired by every team in baseball
When he broke the color barrier, it wasnt easy for him, he had to deal with all the racism from fans and teammates alike
but he shook off all the hate and became one of the greatest ballplayers of all time

Interesting analogy. Couldn't you say the same thing about someone like Roberto Clemente, who was the epitome of a humanitarian and athlete?
