Car Shaking and Loud Exhaust?

I have a 1993 Chevy Lumina with about 136,000 miles. Recently, my car started shaking whenever I was stopped and the car was still in drive. It doesn’t shake as much when I put it into neutral or park. It also doesn’t shake at all when I go above 5 MPH. It feels like the vibrations are coming from directly underneath my seat and not the engine itself (although I can’t be 100% sure). The exhaust also has become noticeably louder when the problem occurred. It almost sounds like I need a new muffler.

I live in a cold climate and it is winter. I have neglected to put dry gas in my car until yesterday. I also replaced gaskets on my engine 3 months ago due to my engine leaking oil, although it still continues to leak. During the process a vacuum line broke but I repaired it with a kit.

I also recently had my muffler and exhaust pipe replaced. I also replaced the spark plugs in my car about a year ago. Thanks.

Have the PCV valve looked at, also check your air intake/filter.

Year ago on a Basic Tune-up. Sounds like it's time for a Major Tune-Up, Have someone Completely go Over the Vacuum System Again. I think it's time for Transmission & Motor Mounts. If it's still making the exhaust Noise Get a Back Pressure check done on the Catalytic Converter.

What kind of gaskets did you have replaced? The exhaust part have a friend rev up the motor and get underneath( safely, of course) and try to pin point its location, you nay have a leak at one of the connections, how about your EGR valve? Multiple things may attribute to your problem, HOWEVER, the previous answers I would back them up by saying, get another vehicle or stop going to the one you are having as a mechanic, he/she is just smoking you out of your money. Unfortunately you may have a 3.6L engine or a 4.3, so if you can afford it ( new car I mean), get a new one, just be nicer to your parents, they may help.

I drove a small chevy car of around that year for a while as a loner. It was low on coolant and ended up with a cracked head. Chevy cars from that era are junk... Sad to say... That car gave me a back massage whenever it was stopped in drive.

Check the coolant level. The automatic transmission is supposed to disengage whenever you're stopped so that it's not straining the motor or drivetrain, it sounds like yours is not.

You really should take it to a mechanic for a transmission and computer diagnosis.

Sounds like it's time for a new car. The Lumina is a throw away car.
