What happens to a person convited of fraud?

I turned my ex girlfriend in for social security disablity , federal and state of wisconsin tax fraud.

She keeps calling me and asking why I want to ruin her life.

I feel a little guilty about it. What will happen to her? Did I ruin her life or did I do the right thing? I told her she would be ok if she was honest, she said you know I'm not suposed to be working for cash, and collecting disability.

You have done the right thing by doing this as long as you haven't perjured yourself by filing a false police report to get even with her for being your EX girlfriend.

It really gets a lot of folks and especially Judges pissed off when people get disability, that can work, and she has proved she can work according to you. I think restitution will be required for sure, and her family situation such as having children or not will greatly influence a Judge's decision in sentencing, as they want to provide a deterrent all the while not breaking up a family unit. House arrest is not out of the realm of possibility here and supervised probation.

You did the right thing. Tax payers dont' want to pay for somebody to collect money when they really don't need it. If she can work for cash than she doesn't need disibility.

She'll probably have to pay all that money back and may even get some jail time or be put on probation.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse, so they say. On the other hand, "intent" is everything. Even our politicians make "honest"(?) mistakes when they don't pay their taxes. I'm not even certain this can be categorized as fraud, more like "an honest mistake". Nothing deliberate here so clear it up quickly lest it fester and give reason to impose penalties.

She decided to be a tax and welfare cheat, she has ruined her own life. I know too many people who are truly disabled and have to jump through all kinds of hoops because of these cheats.

She will probably get fired and nobody will ever hire her again with that on her criminal record (Maybe she can start her own business?? hehe). May get a couple years in jail depending on how much money we are talking about, certainly she will get probation and pay restitution.

It is a felony and no you didn't ruin her life she did if she did it. If not you ruined your llife because they will go after you for making a false report.
