The material used to make "bullet proof" glass is extremely heavy. This would make the cars much heavier and much slower. The fact that there are very few incidences involving someone shooting at police cars would indicate that it's not a very high priority.

And by the way, the skin of a police car is just standard sheet metal and plastic. You don't need armor piercing ammunition. Most rounds even from a hand gun will go right through it.

wtf the best answer is includes... "The fact that there are very few incidences involving someone shooting at police cars would indicate that it s not a very high priority"

I m sorry but one the bullet proof class do not weigh that much and 1000% not heavier enough to slow a cop car down, how is it not a high priority? There may not be that much gun crime in the uk compered to other places but the day somebody leaves with a gun and end up putting a bullet through a police car could very well happen with an increase, police should be fitted with bullet proof glass, even if it seems pointless it will one day become helpful. Some times even the police need a little help and not all police officers are bad.... see a cop in trouble I hope some of you step in to help them, I for sure will.

It is for sure that we must put bullet resistant glass into all police cruisers. Ford is producing a police cruiser with a bullet proof doors and we must add the bullet resistant glass to the windows of these cruisers. If we want good protection for our communities we must also consider the people that are giving us the protection that we need. Wake up America as the 3rd world countries are now progressing faster than our so-called advanced societies.

It wouldn't matter any way. Even in the dead of winter I drove with my window down in order to hear what was going on around me in my patrol area.

My partner and I would just turn the heat up - but it was imperative for us to hear everything, especially sonce we worked in the ghetto area where if your windows were up and the AC or heat going you wouldn't be able to hear a gun shot.

Edit: Trust me a 9MM can puncture the side of a Ford Crown Vic. We do not use armored vehicles on patrol - SWAT and ESU use armored Peace Keeper vehicles for specific situations.

I do. It's really cool. Took them from a dope dealers car after some of my buddies sent him up the river on some bogus charges and dusted his unarmed friends. Don't worry, we had some throw down guns & stuff, so it's all cool.

This answer was just made up for all you cop haters on her trollin around cuz u have nothin better to do.

It's too costly and heavy, and yes, 9mm full metal jacket rounds WILL go through a car door.

Bullet proof windows are expensive and heavy. Most cop shops don't have the budget for new cars let alone expensive glass for officers. And... If you are going to bullet proof the windows then they can just shoot through the doors. It doesn't make sense.

Belive me, the city council would tell us they dont have the money to give us bullet proof windows for our patrol cars!

I don't know about bullet proof but I know some of them have harder to break windows. I once hit one with a hammer and it didn't break. Of course, I've had some that did break.
