How do I fix my computer problem?

I was typing something for my blog when the computer suddenly rebooted itself but never gave me the "Windows is Starting Up" screen--just a blank screen.

I restarted the computer and have so far tried to use different options (use last known settings, chose system restore through safe mode) and nothing has worked. I can get into safe mode, but we haven't changed anything in the past few days, so I wouldn't even know where to begin to change things.

Please help!

Your may have problems with the hard drive, with the operating system or with a virus.

I suggest: try to back up your files if the computer allows you to do that.

Try to use "system restore" and choose a date when your computer was OK (one month ago, you won't lose any file, just settings).

If nothing works, you may need to re-format your computer, using your boot disks and system back up. If you don't have those or don't know what to do, you may need to take to computer to a repair centre.

They need to check if you have a virus, if your system is running well and if your hard drive is OK. Hard drive crash happens, and one of the signs is re-booting and going off without letting you know.

Boot from your XP installation CD.

At the welcome screen, choose enter.

Once at the license agreement, press F8.

At the next screen, choose to repair the selected Windows XP installation by pressing R.

The files will begin to install and then your PC will reboot. During the reboot you will be presented with option of booting from the CD again by pressing any key.

Don't press anything. Allow it to finish the install without booting from the CD again
