I’m using a great online company called Sitesell. This is the very first time I have ever built a website, so I needed a company who could take me by the hand, step by step!
I have nothing but praise for them! They make EVERYTHING so easy! They supply all of the online training, simple (yet incredibly sophisticated tools) and excellent support.
There is small annual hosting fee to pay but that includes all of the above plus your domain registration. They even supply the templates for designing your site! And don't worry about html coding or other techy stuff as that's all taken care of for you!
My site is only 18 months old. but It’s already very highly ranked by the major search engines and is attracting more than 30,000 visitors a month…..and rising! Plus it generates a substantial income (mainly from advertising) which not only well exceeds the running costs, but actually shows a very healthy profit!

Yeah you really need to learn some html. Its not hard really. One program i like is Dreamweaver as it has a design view and you dont always need to know any advanced html. That i would higly recomend but i think it is not that cheap. Also for a host for your site i would highly recomend www.freehostia.com also you can get a redirection link from www.freedomain.co.nr , so for example ..www.yourname.co.nr which would lead onto www.yourname.freehostia.com , If you dont understand feel free to ask. Erm , some basic html would be <title> My webpage </title> (which adds a title) and <body> thankyou for comming to my website </body> this is the main part of your website. But that can be done in any basic text editor , Notepad for example on windows. Try google HTML tutorials you should find something there. Hope that helps!

Web sites are programmed in a language called HTML.
The language is pretty easy to get to grips with so don't let that put you off.
A very good place to learn HTML is here at W3Schools:
http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp
You don't even have to learn HTML to start making a web page. There are lots of web editing programs that let you design the web page and they will do the code for you.
These are known as WYSIWYG editors. What You See Is What You Get.
You could try something like Firstpage Pro 2006 which is a free web editor:

Once you have designed your web pages and saved them on your computer, you want to get them onto the web.
To do this, you need to put the files onto a web server.
A web server is a computer that 'serves' out your web pages to your visitors.
When you visitor types in the web site address to their browser, it takes them to the web server and the web server gives them the files.
Although some people pay for a web server with their own name, you can get one for free at the following web site:
Geocities is the place I built my first web site on about 14 years ago. So it's a great place to get started - trust me from experience!
Geocities also have plenty of tips and tutorials to help you learn.
I think I've given you enough information to get you started. Good luck with your web site.

You can start easily with a web editor like front page 2000 or the popular free NVU. Then maybe start by signing up with a free host, e.g. Netfirms Basic from http://www.netfirms.com/ or the popular http://www.110mb.com/ Many free hosts have their own free web editors. Perhaps download and use a free template from one of many templates web sites, e.g. http://www.steves-templates.com/ then upload your site to your host (use a free FTP program to upload your site - e.g. core FTP). Then you can promote it in forums, search engines, directories, etc, if you want.
You could start with a blog as well, e.g. try the Google’s blogger, or use the simple Google Page Creator (You need a Gmail account) - easy to set up for a beginner.
Later on though, it might pay to learn html/JavaScript/PHP etc, which allows more flexibility to design and modify your web site. Then maybe upgrade to a paid host and domain, which will possibly yield more features (scripting, bandwidth, increased storage space, email accounts, etc) and more ownership of your site...

basic website uses html. you can create this using notepad or word (saved as html). to run, you can probably just click on your file if it's saved as .htm or .html
this site claims it's for newbies:
http://www.pagetutor.com/html_tutor/index.html
one tip: if you go to a website and right-click on the body, you can select "view source" and it will give you the codes. you can actually just copy it (well you have to change it a bit). most sites will allow you to do this. some may not.

Much easier than learning HTML or something like that is to go to a website like http://www.freewebs.com/ or http://www.weebly.com/ - they do all the complicated stuff for you, and give you quite a stylish website.
If you want www.yourname.com (or whatever), you'll need to buy a domain name from http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ - but you don't have to. If you don't buy one you'll get www.freewebs.com/yoursite, or something similar. Hope that helps
