Help. My dog won't drink water and keeps getting dehydrated.?
Every two days or so my dog gets dehydrated and has to go in for an IV drip. They can't figure out what's wrong with him and the next time this happens I am supposed to put him down. They think it is either a tumor on his pituitary gland or heart disease. When he comes home from the vet after an IV drip, he looks 100% better. And for the day after he eats and drinks like a champ. But then by the next day, he stops drinking and slowly stops eating. I don't know what's going on. I have been forcing water and pedialite in him through a spray bottle and watering down his already wet dog food. I need more tips - I am running out of time!!
PS- I have placed water all over the house and elevated his main bowl so that he doesn't need to bend over. I'm even using our purified drinking water.

It might be something to do with his small intestine.
If he is very ill , euthanasia is the best choice rather than leaving him to suffer.

If he's acting normal I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes they just get into something that upsets their tummies for a day. Forcing him to eat/drink could make him throw up again (just like if you are vomiting you don't eat or drink for a while). Now if he gets weak, not playing, watery diarrhea, anything like that then definately call the vet today. If he is still vomiting tomorrow then get him checked out for sure. Chances are he will be back to normal tomorrow. You may want to feed him something bland like some rice with chicken broth mixed in tomorrow morning and see how that goes. If he hasn't thrown up since this morning you could try some plain broth tonight and see how that goes. He won't get really dehydrated in one day unless he is vomiting/diarrhea many many times during the day

try a different type of bowl, glass or ceramic or stainless steel, not plastic. also try "moving" water, from a tap or faucet, see if he likes to drink that better. you can get fountain bowls at pet stores, return it if your dog wont use it. purified water is good, some dogs wont drink water cuz of the chlorine, have you tried adding chicken stock to the water to make it more appealing? i've heard dogs that stop drinking water might have rabies, but i'm sure your vet has already checked that out X.X;
sorry those are the only suggestions I can think of.. for now i'd keep up with the spray bottle =/ sorry and goodluck.

Have you tried ice cubes? My dog loves them. Or frozen dog treats. i bought them over the summer. Could be a temporary solution till you can figure out what is wrong. Sorry I can't be of more help. Good luck.

Insist on xrays and tests to determine what is causing this. Better yet, find a different vet. By now these tests should have been done and the answer to the ailment identified.

try giving him canned chicken broth. it has a little salt in it and makes the dog thirsty. you can also pour it over his food and by this i mean enough broth so the food is floating in it.
