Can I have some advice on the next step I should take with this girl?

u can try to thank her through the email and maybe ask her for a dinner to thank her and see what u can do or try to do after that .....

You need to invite her out to a party you'll be at and have her invite friends. If she's interested, she will come. You need more of an opportunity to chat this girl up because she really doesn't know you and the likelyhood of rejecting a date because of that is high. There's a lot of weird dudes out there, unfortunately, so that's always an obstacle when asking a girl out you don't know.

The pen excuse?? No good. It's a pen. I'm sure she can get one someplace else and has no attachment to it. Please don't go there.

First of all the pen escuse it good :D

Go to her room. Give her the pen and just have a friendly chat. As her if shes doin anything tonight. If she says no ask her if she would like to go out for a friendly drink or eat or something. If shes busy, ask her if she wants to hang out some time. This avoids the whole "Date" Situation :D

try inviting her over to your room for a study group,

then just talk,

and if your still interested,

then try asking her out.
