Who said this and what is the reference?

Man's difficulties are a compound of his cowardices.

To have difficulties in life, all it is necessary to do is to start running away from the business of livingness.

After that, problems of unsolvable magnitude are assured.

When individuals are restrained from confronting life, the accrue a vast ability to have difficulties with it.

Update:

also if you could add an example of this and how you would apply it.

Thanks!

Update 2:

I added that last bit because I realized that I could get many right answers with no way to judge a best answer.

I don't know who said it, but it simply means if you don't confront and deal with the daily issues of living, if instead you ignore them or deny them or "turn away" from them, then they turn into big problems. That is certainly true. Say a light comes on on your car's dashboard - check engine. You say, ah, I don't have time to dick with that - well ok, but next day or next week your engine breaks down in some serious way - so that's all it's saying.
