Do NiMH batteries have 'Memory Effect'?

I have recently seen a claim that NiMh batteries have 'up to 40% memory effect'. Is this true?

Please give references if you find any info.

Update:

Yes, I have seen plenty of sites that say no memory but what I am looking for is any that say they have memory.

I'm affraid I don't have any references, but I'll share my experience non-the-less...

I use rechargeable AAs for my digital camera. The camera should take 1.5V batteries but my NiMH rechargeables are only 1.2V so the camera thinks they've run out long before they actually have. As a result, they keep getting charged and discharged at the top of their operating range and I'm noticing a conciderable deteriation in their performance.

Having said I have no references, I've found somebody who's very passionate about 'Memory Effect' and might help answer your question...

  • Here is the Ray O Vac FAQ web page:

Item #6 talks about memory or rather lack of it.

I have used the NiMh 15 minute rechargeable cells for several years in Sony wireless mic systems and they never had that problem.

    Hope this helps
