  • How to remove warts and moles and other things?

I am one of those people with several moles. They are covered all the time on the legs so they have never been much problem. I make certain they never get any sun. As I have got older, some other growths have appeared on the skin. They look vaguely like warts with a squishy head which pulls off easily. No matter how often the head is removed, they always grow back.

I obtained some wart remover and tried it on a couple. Result .. cancer, one of the lesser types. Required a incision and removal of quite a lot of skin. Of course, the doctor removes much more than is strictly required, just to be safe. I am now a bit nervous of trying any more wart cures.

So my question is, is there a safe and simple way to remove these things (other than surgery)? What might they be?

  • Is answering a question with a question rude?

In my country, sometimes people answer a question with another question. You know the type.

Question "I am dying, will I feel pain?"

Answer "Why, are you afraid of pain?"

Is this regarded as rude in your country?

  • What happens to diesel glow-plugs?

Here, the weather is cold and my diesel car has been getting hard to start. Traced the problem to the glow-plugs which I replaced. That made a huge difference with the engine starting on the first turn.

I thought I would run a few tests on the old glow-plugs. All four were not open circuit, so I connected them to a 12v battery. All four heated up and smoked.

One thing I did notice was that they all were low in current, 2-5 amps rather than about 15-20 amps I would have expected.

So what would cause this? Is this typical?

  • What is the power socket voltages in America?

I believe the standard power socket voltage is 120v 60Hz. This should mean the phase to phase voltage should be √3 times 120 or 208v. However I have noted some people saying the voltage is 240v. Where does this reference to 240v come from?

  • Is Melamine used in milk?

Recently in China, it has been discovered Melamine has been added to milk to boost it's protein level. This milk ended up being fed to children, some of which died. I have noticed some residue left over from some milk which raised the question, could Melamine be being used in other countries (than China)?

  • Gas engines and HOH?

Claims are that using a water electrolysis unit, 20% savings can be made with a car engine. Working from that, how much Hydrogen/Oxygen mixture would have to be generated to do this? How much water would have to be converted to get this much mixture?

  • The Earth, a weight and a piece of string?

A weight is connected to the earth with a cord. The length is sufficient to allow the weight to orbit the earth in a fixed spot over the anchor point. What height and speed will be necessary for the weight? How much mass will be needed so that a rocket could use the cord to winch itself out to the satellite mass? Would this mass be unaffected by the winching process (i.e. would it stay in orbit or decay back to earth)?

  • A sattelite and a piece of string and centripetal force?

Saw an idea on TV yesterday that was interesting. The suggestion was to use something like spider web which is stronger than man made threads (or rather something that had similar strength, maybe many strands) to connect a satellite (heavy weight?) to earth then use it to lift space rockets up out of the atmosphere thereby saving launch mass. Could this work?

  • Japanese Americans in Japan WW2?

In the spring of 1948, the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission (ABCC) was established in accordance with a presidential directive from Harry S. Truman to the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council to conduct investigations of the late effects of radiation among the survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Among the casualties were found many unintended victims including:

    Some 3,200 Japanese American citizens.

What were these casualties doing in Japan? Why were they there?

  • What happened after Veii?

In 396BC the City of Rome attacked the City of Veii. The Romans won. Up until that battle, the Etruscans had been dominant in Northern Italy.

A few years later, the Gauls attacked Rome in the Battle of Allia in 387BC. The Romans at first were being defeated but with the arrival of reinforcements were eventually victorious. After that the Romans restructured there Army and were for a time the dominant armed force in Italy.

At some stage, the Etruscans disappeared. For the Gauls to have reached Rome, they must first to have passed through Etruscan dominated Italy. Did they conquer it? Did the Romans conquer it? What happened?

  • Did Castros rejection by Eisenhower cause Castro to become Communist?

In April 1959, Castro visited the United States with the intention of talking with Eisenhower. Eisenhower rebuffed him and played a round of golf and Castro went from this attempted meeting directly to the Russians. Up until that time Castro had denied that he was Communist and indeed had stressed that he was anti-communist. In retrospect was the response by Eisenhower a mistake? Or was it inevitable that Cuba would end up Communist?

England abolished torture in about 1640 (except peine forte et dure which England only abolished in 1772). The USA came into being in 1776, it's laws must be based on the laws in force at that time. Why does it still condone torture?

  • How do domestic electrical hot water cylinders work?

In some countries, hot water is generated in houses by heating large cylinders of water. Quite often, this is done late at night when demand for electricity is low, called off peak heating. The cylinders are connected to the main water supply and so operate at main pressure. But how do they manage to keep the hot water from being diluted by cold water when a hot tap is opened?
