Back in the day, we use to have large pans of boiling water that we added RIT DYE to.
We used rubber bands and strips of cloth to put on the item we wanted to dye. First we would twist as tight as we could the material. Tye the strips on tight or use rubber bands.
Then we would start with the lightest color.....Yellow.....and dip it. then red and then blue....and then we would reverse the item and start from darker to lighter to none.
We would let it dry. Untie and unbanned it... Iron it to set the colors..... then wash in cold water and throw in the dryer...and iron it again....

There are different methods for dying. You could fold, scrunch or just bunch up fabric tied with rubber bands. Submerge into the dye, place in a plastic bag, and let the color absorb for a period of time. I usually let it got for a month before rinsing out to get color intensity. Speaking of color intensity, don't use those dyes sold in the grocery stores that require hot water. If you can, try using Procion dyes. They are wonderful, need only cold water, and have the most vibrant colors you can imagine!
Have fun!!! I always do.

Make up your different dyes, take your piece of clothing, for the circle effect, take the middle of the shirt and put a rubberband around it, radiate rubberbands out from there and dye it yellow, add more rubberbands and dye red, add more rubberbands and dye blue, rinse in cold water and take off all the rubberbands. TAH DAH!!!
