^ Nope. Mudrul, are you in India? Different melons . Most of what you're probably used to require too long of a growing season for the US. Also probably a matter of different cultures and traditions, even where the season is long enough.

If you mean the differences between C. melo, and C. sativus , melon flowers are solitary , with 3-5 pistils , while cucumber flowers are clustered, and have 4 pistils . Other than that, there's nothing you can point to (except fruit) and say "That's a cucumber." or "That's a melon" . You just have to know .

ps Amanda, although the origin of the name "pepo*" , = "melon" , Cucurbita pepo includes the following, but not cucumbers or melons :

    Acorn squash

    Pattypan squash

    Some types of Pumpkin

    Spaghetti squash

    Yellow crookneck squash

    Yellow straigtneck squash

    Zucchini

Cucurbita: Latin name for "the gourd"

pepo: from Latin "pepo" for a kind of melon and from Greek "pepon" for "ripe"

Both cucumbers and melons are a type of berry called a pepo. They are very similar.
