I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll Band)?

Well, if you've come this far, then you are probably familiar with this old chestnut from the Moody Blues.

My question is how this song should be interpreted. Seems as though there are two possibilities; John Lodge might have been saying something along the lines of; "we can change this world for the better. So don't dismiss us."

Or else he might have meant something like "Look, we're just musicians. We don't have THE answer to everything."

Maybe there are other interpretations? Any thoughts? Thanks

Update:

to tjw; thanks. And, yup, I know what you mean about song lyrics. When I've taken a close look at the lyrics (often times of songs that I'm quite fond of), it's sometimes seemed to me as though the song really doesn't say anything at all.

I,m inclined to agree with your 2nd interpretation. I have to admit though that I dont look for profound statements in song lyrics.

I simply like what I,m hearing or I play something else.

I think it might be a combination of both statements...Singer/songwriter have something to say and they often influence the world with their lyrics...More often, they are just writing songs for their own amuse...Words of a song are not necessarily true to life, and not meant to be taken literally...
