Is my parakeet sick/going to die?

For 4 days now he has been all fluffed up- we haven't seen hin just normally at all. And he is in almost what we thought was a sleeping position- he has his head turned to his back and he's got his eyes closed. So we thought he was sleeping, but he's been like that for 4 days now. He doesn't even move when we walk by his cage and usually he does. AND he hasn't eaten any food. I would guess he's sick or something, but how can we make him better? He's only about 5 years old. Is this something we should just let time heal, like a cold? Thank you for your help!

Take him to the vet! But ..if you can't afford the vet and you held the bird near a cold place then theres a chance he got a 'cold'. Sick birds do get better! ( not always) What you can do is keep the bird inWARM place minimum 80 degress but best at 90. Put blankets to keep bird warm. Give him pedyalyte(baby energy drink) which gives th parakeet move energy to warm up. (Your bird might not be eating because he/she is tooweak). Give him the water forcefully, through a dropper. Also you can try buying vitamins like VitaFlight for ill birds. Buy him baby bird food....

This is just the answer if you CAN"T take him to the vet. I say the vet will definitly help him!! =D

    Hello.

First I recommend to handfeed for a while. First mixture has to be really thin, cause he didn't eat for so long.

Take the water out of his cage. Is he allone in the cage? Then buy MARVEL AID. This you leave in the cage for four days or fife. It is an antibiotica.

Mix a drop in the Babyfood. The bird needs a warming lamp, too. Check the droppings. They have to be black and white, like a circle.

Help him with the food, to get strength!!!!!!

Give him then too, cooked rice, shredded carrots, corn pieces, when he is better. Is it a boy or girl? If girl, Could be an egg stuck? Look under the bird. behind the tummy, where the tail starts..... Birds shouldn't be allone eighter, when you have to go, who takes care of him?

Did you ever give him vitamin drops into the water?

If he makes it, cause 4 days is a long time to get help, then get him a partner!!!!! No bird should be alone anyway.

Hope it will save your little friend.

sounds very very poorly. You should have taken your bird to the vets on the second day...But you would have thought it would pick up in a couple of days. its not so easy when you are not so sure. good luck to you and your parakeet

GO TO THE VET!!! Again people, would you be asking this question if it were your child or would you be going to the doctor? Animals are no different! They need doctors same as us! They won't get better just by wishing. At the very least phone your vet and see what s/he has to say.

It is a bird's instinct to hide their illness because, in the wild, a sick bird is easy prey. So by the time you notice that your bird looks sick, it is VERY sick.

Please get your bird to a certified avian vet right away. If you do not have one, this website might help:
