How do you cut a wire on a chandelier to proper length?

The instructions only has pictures. It says use the hooks for desired length but I don't know what to do with the extra cord to get desired length. No 800 number either.

Update:

The chandelier is from Ikea( Lerdal) and the wire is knotted to the connections. How do I cut the wire?

Add about 6 inches on from the over-all length of the chain, cut the wire, make the splice in the ceiling box and bury the excess wire in the box.

make the chain the length that you want it, then cut the wire about ten inches past the end of the chain to give you some slack to make up the splice. Cut the wire with wire cutters, or if you don't have wire cutters you'll have to find something in the kitchen to do the job like a knife

A scissors will cut the wire. Cut it 6 inches longer than you need, make the connections tight, and put the extra wire inside the ceiling box.
