the other day?

What is the proper use of saying "the other day"Me and my girlfriend were talking about something we had watched on T.V.She said that it happened the other day.I said no it happened yesterday.She agreed that it was yesterday,but she said she could use the words" the other day" even if it happened yesterday.I told her I didn`t think that wasn`t wright how she said it.Who`s wrong?or can you use both?

    yall both right to me cause i always say that other day but only if i'm not sure if it was yesterday or the day before i say the other day

    lol, well usually you use it when your talking about 2-5 days ago. 'Cause if you said I went tot he store the other day and you went yesturday then thats not the OTHER day its yesturday. And because there is no real name for 2 days ago. When you say "The other day" means like it wasnt yesturday but a few days ago and I can't remember exactly how many days. lol get it? if this helps then good^^
