use an e-mail provider when you press compose look for "type of message" there should be text.

Yahoo has a SMS Feature that will allow you to SEND A SMS Message to a Mobile phone for nothing, no $, But you have to have a yahoo acoount. MSN and AIM also have that feature. In Yahoo messenger, just go under ACTIONS> SEND SMS MESSAGE. THats it.
