What steps to take before I can sell my artwork (read details)?
I want to start selling artwork of mine. Probably mostly over the internet, possibly elsewhere as well. Does that mean I am technically "starting a home business"...? I assume I will need a Tax ID number for filing taxes, but do I need to file for a business liscense as well. I live in Ohio (if it matters). I don't even know where to go via internet, because I don't know what types of applications/ registering whatnot I may have to do. If anyone could touch on the basics of things I might need to do before I can sell any work, I would greatly appreciate your input.

First, before you get all caught up in government crap, just start selling! The government doesn't run your life and art is difficult to sell online, so just start doing it! Build a website and start putting up photos of your art and see what happens. If after ONE YEAR you are doing very well then talk to a good accountant about how you should go forward as a business. Until you know it will work you are only making things more complicated by get business licenses, insurance, etc, etc. Do you know it is as much a pain in the butt to shut down a business as it is to start it? So until you know if it will work just leave the government out of it. Believe me, I have 3 different experiences of failed businesses where I wished I never got sucked into all the bureaucracy before I knew they would be successful.
