Have you been to an Ice Cream Social?
I have to plan a Ice cream social for a community wide benefit. Have you been to one and or do you have any ideas? I'm thinking long summer dresses with parisols for women and equal to for men. Late May time frame, Afternoon into evening

Well, the costuming sounds good but it might limit your attendees unless you are looking for an adults only event.
If it's a community benefit, I'd go with a family theme. It's the perfect opportunity to engage kids in community service.
And family games would be fun....instead of the usual egg race...why not have relays with participants carrying scoops of ice cream or ice cream cones?
At a preschool party we had parents and staff cross cones...like couples do with champagne glasses at weddings. The pairs who ate their cones first won a free 5 gallon bucket of ice cream from a local grocer.

Well hardly any women wear dresses anymore. It used to be that ice cream socials would be where everyone would bring a freezer of homemade ice cream and toppings and everyone would have scoops and scoops of ice cream and sit around and talk or watch old movies on the wall while sitting on blankets. We also played old fashioned family games like potato sac races, three legged race, running eggs with a spoon in our mouth, turtle races, best hat contest, best cake judging, cutiest baby, oldest person, person that came the furtherest. Just little things.. and only ribbons were given out not tvs or expensive items. When it got closer to the evening we would have a dance that people could either come back for or have the contests and races in late day and have the ice cream after then do the dance or movies.
Thats all my ideas.
Source(s): Oh I wouldnt trust people bringing ice cream and toppings nowdays. Wouldnt want food poisoning. - LOVELv 51 decade ago
i agree with the others, the ice cream social i attended was one you could wear whatever you wanted to. if its for a benefit then i wouldnt restrict what the people can wear. you could however have a contest to raise more money using the attire your talking about. maybe charge a few dollars to participate in the contest. i think may is a good month and afternoon is perfect. good luck hope it works out for you.
