Why are MLB teams allowed toplay college teams in spring training?

Why are MLB teams allowed to play college teams during the preseason? I never seen another professional sports league do this and I wonder how this benefits anyone? How embrassing must it feel if you lose to a college team but at same time how does it feel to be demolished by professionals? We already had two interesting games of college vs pros. In a split squad game the Boston Red Sox beat Boston College 24-0. The other day the University of Michigan played the New York Mets to a 4-4 draw.

This is mostly done for charity and can you think of the thrill the college players have even to be on the same field as the pros? Plus, what if you end up tying or beating a MLB team? That could pump your team up for the whole college season. The pros normally only play their young and non-roster spring invitiees in the game, so its not like David Vs Goliath. Its normally done in fun and everyone has a good time.

Good question . Brings to mind what if NFL teams played college teams. How about the New England Patriots play USC. Wow what a game that would be.

The Mets are enjoying great in Spring practise. they are 2-a million (3-a million in case you count quantity their exhibiton interest against the Italy team in the WBC). each little thing is going top. Castillo is particularly hitting and preforming in the single spot. Church has been enjoying properly. Reyes and Beltran have been enjoying properly with 9 RBI's between them in one interest against the Marlins. all of the starters are pitching properly, or maybe the bullpen has been pitching properly (different than for the interest against Saint Louis). the suitable Mets pickup for the time of the offseason: Francisco Rodriguez, had a solid interest on Friday. the sole participant I hassle approximately is Johan Santana the Mets ace. If his elbow would not get extra advantageous, the Mets would be in massive difficulty.

It is simple practice but I think it is really for the College Teams. Just so they can have some fun and to give them goals to go for.
