Should I go back to college?

I'm kinda stuck in a bad situation right now as I've been made aware that there will be redundancies within my department at work, my wife and I have discussed the options open to me, and I'd really like to try and better myself as a person and feel college would be the right thing to do. Only problem is I don't know how to go about it, where to start, what I could be. What do you think I should do? kinda been playing on my mind all morning, oh if it helps any I'm 23 years old.

Thanks a lot.

Absolutely! I went back to college at your age, it was a gift to myself for my 23rd birthday. I graduated in 2006 with an Associates degree and I will graduate with my Bachelors degree in May 2008, then on to graduate school. Your focus will get you through. With the support of your wife and family you can do it.

Here is how you go about it. Visit the school that you are interested in attending; via website or in person. Take the placement test, register for classes with an advisor (advisors a great, but you have to be in control of your education), then attend classes. If you want to ease back into it take general education courses at a local technical college (class sizes are usually small) with intentions to transfer to a university if that's what you desire. I also advise that you take day classes (12+credit hours) and work a job that begins in late afternoon. Depending on your major, night classes may not be an option and if they are it may take you twice as long to graduate based on the availability of the classes. I hope this provides you with information you can use.

    Good luck to you!!!

I think it is a great idea - I did an open univerity degree when I was in my early 30's and also computer courses when I was in my 20's and now I have a job working from home which I love..................you need to think about what you enjoy doing - you are old enough now to decide what you really want to do and the opportunity is there for you so go for it - check out the websites of colleges near to you and see what courses they have on offer and then you just enrol - you can even make an appointment and speak to the lecturers there or go to an open evening and they can advise you on their courses

well what you can do is you can work and take evening classes.. depending on you, you can do an associates which is 2 yrs, or bachelors which is 4 yrs min. You might want to look at colleges in your area and see what kind of programs they offer, and then apply. Most of them have start taking applications now for august. Once you have that done and accepted you will be assigned a adviser that will help you with classes to take and all that stuff.

Okay. First yes college would help you greatly. Go to the local community college around time. It cheaper than a 4 year school and you still get a great education. Start with talking in the Admission office that a good place to start.

If you want to go for it I did and I'm older than you are. I went back to do an access course which is the equivalent to 3 A Levels but ended up staying 3 more years to do a degree which I've nearly completed and I'm really glad I went back to education. I'm no expert by any means but can tell you what my own experience is of returning to education and where to start, feel free to email me if you want.

Go to your local college and ask to speak to a careers advisors, they will be able to give you all the information you need, some job centres are very helpful too, you could do a part-time degree course and still work, hope whatever you do you get something you really want to do.

Definately go back to school. Otherwise, you will have to prove yourself twice as much for twice as long in almost any job.

I'd say work in the day and go to school at night.

And your age doesn't matter, even though you are still relatively young.
