Is this a good deal for a Philippino Project Manager (40 yrs with 18 years experience from Saudi) to work in Bahrain?

This is for a friend based in Jeddah who got a job offer from large European Company having Regional Office in Bahrain.

Update:

Suren - I thought the offer was admirable too and judging from the cost of living. It's a much better situation in Bahrain compared to Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Thanks for the input. appreciate it.

Update 2:

Red Dragon - having an answer from you is already authoritative being the resident mster of Bahrain Section - of course without even mentioning you as a Bahraini.

Thanks man !

Update 3:

liclaa -

your answer is very informative with supporting facts and figures. it seems the concensus in to go ahead and having your answer as the basis - I think there is no denying that the offer is good.

Thanks for the reply !

I live in Bahrain, I can tell you that if he is moving in with his family, he will need to rent a 2 bedrooms apartment minimum, the 2 bedrooms is 600 BD in bahrain in very nice areas, in so so areas and not in excellent shape is 450, furnished and you don't pay for utilities. in all cases, one bedroom is not common here and generally is not much less expensive, unless it is not furnished. I am single and I spend 140BD per month in transport, (car rent), and 150 minimum on my food. the fact that he has 100% medical coverage is excellent because health care is expensive here. now I think the offer is just okay (when you look at his experience) but then it depends on his own calculations and current situation. I hope these information will help him do his calculations and decide wheather the offer is interesting or not. I wish him good luck

Im not familiar with the cost of living in Bahrain and what a BD 560 can offer as accomodation.

But one thing is for sure here in Dubai BD 1400 as a salary is common and BD 560 can only get a single bedroom apartment or a studio flat.

Then again - in Bahrain, I cant be sure what BD 1400 and BD 560 can offer for the individual.

Maybe battgirl can answer better - (I think she's from Bahrain and from the Philippines)

Overall it seems that the package is admirable. Although housing allowance is not very good due to rising rents in Bahrain, however the other compensatory benefits such as Transport allowance and Tel. allowance are really good. I am not sure for Saudi but I understand that in Saudi salaries are much better anyway does'nt matter.

    No harm in the deal.

    Go for it.

Yes, this is reasonably good as per what I had heard about a year back from a friend who worked in Bahrain.

Yes it is. You will be able to save a lot of money with that salary. Only accommodation & school fees are expensive, all the rest like clothing, entertainment & food are very cheap.

Go ahead and accept the deal
