what is an outbound UDP packet?
I just bored of get this message every time I sign in Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo Messenger. My firewall (kaspersky 7.0) is set in training mode, and it opens a banner with the title Outbound UDP Packet, then give me the choice to Block, to Allow or to turn off the training mode.
Also, Outbound TCP connection when I try to connect to Yahoo Messenger.
Why I have to do? allow it? block it? There is any risk involved?
the application is always messenger. And sometimes the destiny port is some IP i don't know. Some say "speedy" that is an internet server and provider in my country, Peru (where I have the most of my contacts), but I live in NY.

UDP is a transmission protocol out of many exisiting protocols, such as the famous TCP.
While TCP is generally used for browsing and other activities that requires handshake, checksum and other data-validation techniques, the UDP is mostly used for streaming data, such as a video streaming, p2p networks, and radio streaming, because for the machine who serves the client doesn't matter whether the client received the full packet or only a part of it.
Some applications use the UDP method for other usages. You might want to know the destination of the packet before you allow any transmission to occur, so you better see what the firewall tells about the destination of the packet. It might be live messenger or yahoo server, and blocking it may cause troubles connecting to the service. Also, you might want to check the destination port, and look on the web for information about this port number, it might be a known port for those services (such as TCP 1863 for live messenger)

I don't know about Yahoo Messenger, but Widows Live messenger needs to be able to send outbound UDP packets in order to connect to the Windows live service, generally it will first send DNS requests (UDP packets) to your default router, then will want to send control packets to the Windows Live servers, before letting TCP take over and handle the login.
Your firewall should tell you which application is requesting to send the packets - if it's Messenger, it's OK.
