Repair boards for flat panel TVs?
I've noticed that there are e-bay auctions for boards from broken flat panel TVs. I also know that the makers of cheap TVs like Vizio don't carry repair parts for their out of warranty TVs.
How easy is it to swap out boards on these types of TVs? Do the connectors just plug in or is there soldering involved? Are there brands that are easier to swap boards on than others?
For someone with some electronics experience, is board swapping repair very difficult?
I'm looking at it from the standpoint of which cheap TV to buy. I assume there are a lot of broken Vizio's around because of the number of them that are sold.
>panel breakage is ok, as long as it wasn't powered up when the display cracked....
Does that mean that the boards will be damaged if the display is on (or turned on later) when the panel is cracked? (Wii damaged TVs?)
>Then you have working power supplys and the XYZ-sus boards.....
X-sus ? The last TV I fixed had tubes (plural) in it.

Steve....if you don't colorize your connectors before you take them out, you'll have difficulty plugging them in...since they have EXTRA plugs for extra boards and features....
Of course that's only the signal processors....
The Power board is pretty easy, as long as its the same chassis and model. Can't suggest cross-modeling those...
And any X-sus Y-sus or Z-sus board are VERY model specific...it must be the exact same model or it won't work in any other TV set.....
And that's if those boards aren't broke or damaged coming out of a broke or damaged TV set.....
Display panel breakage is ok, as long as it wasn't powered up when the display cracked....Then you have working power supplys and the XYZ-sus boards.....
Any other questions?
