X Reg BMW 316i water pump went, now the head gasket has gone 2 weeks later- are these related?
I bought an X reg BMW 316i a month ago with 76000 miles on the clock. a week after I bought it, the water pump went and was repaired. Two weeks after the water pump was replaced, the head gasket blew and now it's in the garage having those repairs done. The car was sold to me with a 12 month warranty covering anything that wears out/ goes wrong, so I'm not out any extra money, but I'm wondering if I've bought a dog here or if these two problems are likely related and everything should sort itself out after this repair.
Any advice I can get is welcome!
I'm pretty certain the water pump went as I was sitting in traffic, saw water and steam coming from the bonnet then when opened the bonnet up, there were white water marks extending out from the water pump and the radiator was nearly dry. The engine did overheat several times as we limped to a place for recovery. As for the head gasket, my husband was driving at the time and I wasn't there to see it, but he said that while idling the engine just started dumping water onto the ground from the off side front and the engine overheated. I guess it does make sense that if the engine overheated that many times, the gasket could be related.
Since I bought the car from an independent dealer, I think the best thing to do would be to take it to a BMW garage when I get it back and have them check it over completely.
Any other ideas?

Yes they are most probably related and the head gasket was affected by the overheating, The advice I can give to you is that you do not wait on anything abnormal you notice in the car and just repair right away, this will save you a lot of extra expences, and ba aware that you should deal with a profissional BMW technician.

well the 2 problems could be connected but unlikely do to the fact that i bet the water pump never went out the place you bought the car from was tring to get off cheap im willing to bet did you get a dog who knows only time will tell but if im not mistaken i think the car is about ready for it 3rd annual maint. witch is the biggest and most expensive what i have delt with i think ours when i took it in at 85,000 it cost me around 4,000 and from what i hear that on the low side of the speturm and that was only 4months after i bought the car wow that was fun but in the end if you bought the car from a bmw dealer they should have checked that and many other thing will the "water pump" was getting fixed i would do some looking in to that our local dealer when you take it to them just for let say a low tire the tire usally gets replaced and all fuilds are checked and when you get it back theres a full tank of gas witch im sure im paying for some how have not figured that on out but ne was do some checking in to the dealer ship it self
hope this helped

I suspect that overheating because of the water pump is what caused the head gasket to go. Sounds like the shop is doing all they can to get you going again. I don't see where they could have known the head gasket was going to blow in advance. I think after they get your head gasket back in good shape you'll be good to go

it is possible these two problems are related, as if the water pump wasn`t working properly the engine may have heated to a level where the head could warp. make sure who ever repairs your BMW that they check the head for this and even machine the head so it is perfectly square and flat

Your superb guess could be to touch the broker directly to be sure in the event that they're keen to repair the priority or in all hazard paintings out any style of answer with you. regrettably as with maximum used automobiles they're bought "as is" with out implied warranties. This in fact ability as quickly as you purchase the motor vehicle andchronic it off of the lot any issues become your accountability. it truly is likewise a significant reason you could desire to constantly have the motor vehicle inspected with the aid of your person self reliant mechanic only before purchase to verify the motor vehicle has no time-honored issues. the only way you could properly be entitled to a refund is in case your further the motor vehicle to a state inspection station and the motor vehicle failed inspection. if it truly is the case, then you definately would be entitled to a refund. you in basic terms have a undeniable timeframe to do this in, which varies from state to state. maximum states, enable in basic terms 3-5 days. If the water pump and heat gasket is your concern, it would not sound like this regulation could help you. regrettably, there is not any longer plenty you're able to do in this occasion besides touch the broker immediately and desire that they seem to be an honest dealership and could come to a decision this occasion with you, however the regulation would not require them to achieve this.

could be related. depends on the quality of the coolant/antifreeze the previous owner used, and whether it was ever changed. bmw's are generally reliable, but expensive to fix. have the car thoroughly inspected before the warranty expires so you can claim anything that needs done now.
