Bell Jar fish tank?
I want to make an aquarium out of a Pyrex Bell Jar (#452263) by placing the rounded end in a cradle frame. The measurements are 18"OD x 30 3/16 HT with a wall thickness of 3/16. The volume will be around 30 gallons with a weight of around 250 pounds. Will the bell jar explode from the water weight? Any design ideas or suggestions for a narrow tall tank? FYI - I have 3 of the jars :)

It shouldn't break. It's Pyrex®. What I would do is, get the jar, put the water in it, add some gravel(if you are going to use it) and put it outside, not in the sun directly, and wait a few days or a week(if you have the patience). If it breaks, well, then you saved yourself a hell of a worse clean up. If it doesn't, then head on to your plans.
But good idea though, I like it.

I would be a bit nervous about trying that. Thats a lot of weight on a glass container thats not designed to support it. Even pressure points from the cradle could lead to failure.
I would look at the round perspex tanks that are made to handle that weight of water.
Remember to that a tall narrow container is not an ideal aquarium, and would not support the same number of fish as a normal 30g tank ( less surface area for O2 exhchange). But it can be done as long as you realise the limitations.

A pickle jar!!! That is not an appropriate tank! How would you like it if you were shoved in a really small area. That is not big enough even for a fricken Guppie to swim around in! But if you are a cruel cruel person and keep them in a jar then just dont use the lid. Fishbowls, are appropriate for about 1 fish and they do not have a lid. So please get a fishbowl but if u dont then take the lid off the pickle jar

Hahaha,,,maybe you should just use condoms -lots of it- as your cradle. That way the weight will be evenly distributed thus breakage less likely to happen,,,
