I have a 42" Panasonic Plasma. The people at Best Buy said that LCD was more for people who watch tv during the day, which is why the colors are brighter, and it has a plastic screen, so the light doesn't reflect in the screen. Plasma's are better for night time, and have a glass screen. I like the plasma's alot more, the picture is more crisp and everything. My mom and dad have had 4 LCD's and every single one of them looked like crap, and they got a plasma, and it looks drastically better. So, I'd say plasma is better, and so did the people I talked to at Best Buy. They also said that the best brand you can get is Panasonic. They have the latest, top of the line tv, that just came out March 4.
Oh, and whatever you do, do not get a projection tv. They suck soooo bad. My cousin has one, and when you don't sit right in front of the tv, it gets really dark and hard to see, and its a really good brand. Its like, if you have a laptop, and you tilt the screen too far one way and it gets dark, it looks exactly like that. The picture isn't nearly as good either.

First of all -- the most important consideration is ..
What is your budget?
After that point, start looking in the price range that you have determined. LOOK at working models set up and running in the stores -- and stand away from them the same distance that you would in your own apartment/home. That way, you will be able to SEE what you will see at home.
I don't suggest a particular brand -- for there are some brands out there (big names) that (and I am pretty near-sighted, with pronounced astigmatism) -- so they were unclear, gave me a headache, and I could not clearly see the picture at all.
I have BOTH a LCD and a Plasma in my home -- the Plasma is in the Family Room, and the LCD is in my Bedroom. EACH is a different brand.
Again, I can't emphasize enough that you need to be aware of your budget for sure. THAT is going to be the determining factor in any purchase.
Source(s): An Empty-Nesting Single Retiree who chose the TVs for her home based on BUDGET too. I treated myself -- and set a top limit. At that point, I went to several stores, watched the ACTUAL picture on the TVs, and then made my choice AFTER I also looked at comments on the brand/model too. BOTH TVs work fine for my needs. - pinhed_1976Lv 61 decade ago
plasma has bigger, more affordable screens, over 52 inch
lcd has a lot better picture, but the screens go up to 52 inch. anything bigger and the price is prohibitive. plasma looks best in a dark room, if you have windows and it's light most of the time, go with lcd. plasma screens get hotter.

That would depend on the size of the TV. Plasma is better as a bigger TV. and LCD for the smaller sizes

LCD. Just trust me. Plasma is not worth getting into

Plasma for dark rooms. LCD for bright ones.

neither... actually a projector is the best. you can scale the size all the way up to 10ft x 20ft easily or smaller.. smaller the better clarity but either way. the lcd doesn't get burnt in images cuz there really isnt one to burn in plus DLP projection is the same projection found in high quality movie theaters
