Dentists please help!!?

why in this day and age would a dentist use a silver filing for a cavity when white is available? why wouldnt they ask the patient which color they prefer? and how can this problem be fixed (by taking out the silver filing to make it white)?

Depending on where the filling in placed in the mouth... the dentist may have had no choice to do white or silver. When they place white fillings, the area they are working around needs to be absolutely dry. If they do not have a dry working field sometimes the only result is to do a silver filling. They should have asked you which type of filling you would prefer. To fix the problem all they need to do is cut out the silver filling and redo it with white. Just let them know you were unhappy with your results and they may credit your account with the silver fee and then charge you with the white fee. White fillings are usually $20+ more.

If it is in back teeth I would much prefer the amalgam in my mouth. There are advantages to both. You are thinking looks & i am thinking durability!! It can chaged easily. I would have asked first. Doc W
