What is a dead pixel?

What exactly is a dead pixel?

And is it visibly noticeable?

I am looking at an item that says it may have 2 or more dead pixels. Is this bad?

Thanks

Update:

Dead pixels are not going to show the image in the area of their location. Think of those old time signs that used 100s of light bulbs to illuminate a picture. If one of those goes dead the picture isn't complete. However, pixels are TINY and one or two dead pixels USUALLY aren't even noticeable. I've read that if you go over 5 though, you're going to start to notice.

Assuming you know what a pixel is, a dead pixel is a pixel that remains unlit. You generally won't notice a dead pixel very much unless it is on a white background. As long as the price is low for the item and you don't mind seeing a tiny black dot or two every now and then I'd say go for it. If you'd like to see what a dead pixel sort of looks like... I'd say a period is pretty close. ==> . <==

An lcd screen is made up of thousands of pixels. A dead pixel is one that is constantly black. No light will show through.

screens are made up of thousands of pixels. Look really hard at your montior right now.

. <<<< see that period? that is one pixel.

a dead pixel no longer functions and remains one solid color (usually white or black)

find out exactly how many pixels the screen you are looking at has ( a sales associate will help you locate it on the box) by todays standards, it is rare to have all the pixels perfect.

A dead pixel is one that does not activate. It is noticeable, as a black spot. If its just 2 dead pixels, I wouldn't worry about it, as pixels are quite small, and you probably won't even realize it in everyday viewing.

A ineffective pixle is basically that, ineffective. The scren is created from hundreds of thousands of pixels and that they are no longer something however the intersection grid of liquid crystal exhibit's (liquid crystals) information wires. whilst the juncture is going ineffective you're left with a know-how hollow (no information) and subsequently, a gray coloring. that's an illustration of the deterioation of the exhibit screen often. The older liquid crystal exhibit displays have a incredibly short lifestyles span whilst in comparison with greater moderen displays. greater suitable get arranged for a exhibit screen exchange or a clean laptop.

na it should be fine onnly 1 or 2 should hardly be noticeable on a big screen it just meants that some of the squillions of pixels are dead which means a tiny tiny part of the picture is missing should not be noticeable

It'll just look like a tiny speck, you'd probably have to search for it to find it (though it can be the kind of thing that once you spot it, you can't see anything else). Apparently they sometimes sort themselves out.
