Cost to repair busted oil pan?

2006 Chevy Cobalt. We swerved to miss a dog, ran up on the curb and busted the oil pan. We barely got home before all the oil had leaked, so, we're just going to put some more oil in and then drive it to the shop across the street, any idea of a price range on this sort of replacement?

Update:

Yes, replace :)

Update 2:

I would have hit the dog, my husband was driving :)... we know nothing about cars or fixing them, and we don't know anyone that does work on them, so yeah. Thanks for all the great answers!

Ok sweety,The oil pan is Aluminum or Magnesium. Dealer part ,over $100.oo for part +labor at $90.oo a hour to change to do at a dealer. Sorry,Does that help.Unless You know a welding shop that will weld it,but you still have to "take it off",then after is fixed put back.Alot of work.(depending on size of hole)."small" not over a half dollar.

    Chevy Cobalt Oil Pan

since its a fairly new vehicle, the oil pan is probably a little expensive. have no idea how much. but the labor will probably run you about $150 to $200 plus the cost of the pan

  • i just replaced an oil pump and pan on my truck myself, i was going to pay someone to do it for me but the cheapest estimate i got was close to $600, and my truck is an '89. in my opinion, if you have a family member or friend that can do the repairs, thats probably your best bet.

    good luck.

go to your local salvage yard and pick up one for about 30 bucks. also inspect the oil pump as well, you might have dameged it also.

and one more thing, i know it might sound cruel, but next time dont swerve for the dog, its softer than a tree or another object. had a freind who swerved to miss a deer once and wrapped his brand-new dodge truck around a big oak tree, dang near killed him.

Maybe your warranty covers it, or your insurance. You do mean replace instead of repair it, don't you? That'd be my choice. God Bless you.
