What does "adjustable brakes" mean in regards to the Edsel?

I keep reading that the Edsel had adjustable brakes, but I'm not really sure what that means. I'm curious because I'm writing an essay on the demise of the Edsel. Adjustable brakes were first used for the Edsel, and are apparently still in use for modern cars. Thanks :)

The Edsel was the first car to have SELF ADJUSTING brakes, not just adjustable brakes. That was 1958. By 1962 if was a feature in all cars. That is about its only claim to fame.

Edsel. "Every day something else leaks."

They adjusted themselves (when you backed up) all cars have self adjusting brakes now ( or disc brakes which don't need to be adjusted)
