birth announcements and gifts?

I am putting together my birth announcements early and i was just curious, when you send them, do people typically send gifts or money back to you?

Just a few. I found with my child that we received our gifts at our baby shower, and again for her Christening the a month after she was born. But the announcement itself was more to share her specifics (weight, height, date, etc.) and her beautiful face. I did get quite a few phone calls from them though...may be welcome (or not...if baby is finally sleeping!). Congrats!

Whenever you get a chance after your baby is born, then you can send your birth announcement. Some people do send money and gifts sometimes.

I think that it is not expected like it is when you attend a baby shower. However, some people will, particularly out of town relatives that were not able to make it to a shower or to the hospital.

I had a dilemma regarding who to send announcements to because I didn't want people to feel they were obligated to send gifts in return. But I did want to show the whole world how adorable my baby was and that he was here. It's easier than having to call a billion people and it gets a picture in their hand quick too. (if you include one.)
