It depends on their lyrics rather than success. I value skills over record sales. Nas, my favorite rapper, made a classic album at such a young age and soulja boy at this age just gets downloads. Nas is a good lyricist which mainstream hip hop lacks.

Just like any other artist...depends on how original they are. Then again some people arent as picky and just fall in love with any MTV rapper or pop star.

soulja boy, lil boosie, 90% of these mainstream rappers you see on BET.. that isn't music. thats **** that these high school kids just eat up.

what makes a rapper great is when they keep coming out with fresh songs with ill lyrics. no matter what they put out, it's always fresh and hot. what makes a rapper suck is, when they have wack beats and lyrics, like gucci mane or soulja boy.

in my opinion it really comes down to original;ity and content,although marketing has a lot to do with an artist success, you can only fool hip hop heads for so long,now days that this craft has become a ring tone indstry its hard to distinguish good artist from the rest,lets not look at recrd sales lets look at progrsiveness as an artist.best rapper alive, NAS...........Westcoast = The game, or take time to listen to MURS,or ACEYALONE..........south= Scarface...........north=COMMON.............and east coast=up and coming JOELL ORTIZ........ this is just my opinion. and can we please get off the tube all these young senseless acts.............SOULJA BOY<HURRICANE CRISS<WEBBIE<ETC> ETC>
