Econ 101 ... deficits and debts are NOT the same thing. Yes, Clinton signed off on annual budgets that ran surpluses. Which means that for a given fiscal year, the government took in more money than it spent. The national debt is the cumulative effect of many individual budget deficits over many, many years. Which means that even though Clinton had a few years with a budget surplus, it did next to nothing to bring down the national debt. That would take decades of enormous fiscal restraint. And yes, we returned to deficit spending under Bush.

Should Bush be applauded for creating a budget surplus for Iraq? Yes, but only by corrupted puppet gov. Common people won't see a dime of that surplus !

I would LOVE to applaud him for a budget surplus in the United States. Of course, that's just a pipe dream.

Isn't that wonderful?
While Bush runs up a $400 billion deficit this year and adds $4.5 trillion to the national debt over the 8 years in office, Iraqi citizens are reaping the benefits of $105/barrel oil.
While our interstate (federally funded) bridges fall down due to neglect, we spend millions rebuilding Iraqi infastructure, just so some Sunni or Shi'ite insurgent can blow it up 5 minutes after we leave.
Whoopie! Your tax dollars at work!

And don't forget the 20 billion the Iraqi government banked the last quarter of 07 . . . as reported by the GAO.

Something about this sure seems fishy to me! I could never put the words Bush, and applauded in the same sentence...except for this sentence that I am writing currently. LOL, your last question is hilarious! *sm*

Chi Guy: If they didn't have a surplus, we'd have to subsidize them so they did!So be happy about it!
