im thinking of getting sky tv is there any cons to look out for?

With regards to Sky the cons are:

1)The one off costs are expensive (more so if you get Sky HD).

2)Not great for on-demand programmes.

However, the pros are:

1)If you do want HD then Sky wins hands down. It currently has 14 HD channels.

2)The HD quality is the best broadcast quality you can get as they use the better Mpeg4 compression..

I've been a cable customer for a long time and still am but recently signed up to Sky TV as Virginmedia seems to be going a bit stagnant with regards to getting HD content and it looks like they won't have Sky One for a long time still. Therefore no 24 or Simpsons!

If you get the full package, u get like 600+ channels and half the time, there's nothing decent to watch!

But apart from that... nothing much really as far as I know =)
