Not sure if you are asking about fair rates to pay for work done in your home, or if you are looking for employment, so I will answer for both.

As far as paying one to do work in your home, you can find very good electricians for $50/hour, sometimes less.

If you are inquiring about the going pay rate for employment, a journeyman-level electrician will see anywhere from $20-$35/hour. Apprentice-level will be in the $15-$25 range.

There is a huge influx of illegal labor right now in the construction sector, as tough new labor laws in Oklahoma and Arizona have caused a flood of illegal construction labor to relocate to Texas since the beginning of the year. With the very small slowdown in the Dallas housing market coupled with the influx of tens of thousands of new construction workers, these rates could easily lower a bit.

A good electrician can charge from $75 to $100 per hour in the Seattle area. Dallas is about $10 less in the pay package.

$45.00 is the average...and go for someone OLDER. Seriously. If they're in their 40's and up, they not only have the experience, but they will not try to screw you with "extras".

Try Wayne Bowen Electric in Irving.
