SATA Drivers on an ASUS M2N Sli Deluxe?

Hi Guys,

Soon im Getting a SATA Drive for my new PC.

on my last PC i got sata drives but was so over them as my Drivers just wouldnt work for it, i saved them to a Floppy disk and things just didnt work.

I returned 2 drivers as i just got sh!tty with them.

On my new PC i dont have a Floppy disk drive...

Im on WinXP SP2, but will i need to load the drivers on a Clean first time install of WinXP SP2 from Floppy Disks???

or will i able to load them from the Driver CD for my MoBo???

And once ive done it first, will i need to always reload them on a clean install agian, and again....???

Cos i was thinking of connecting it as a seconadary drive to my IDE one now with XP on it already....

and having XP reconize it and then installing windows on it as the only drive in my PC. will that work?

or again ill need to install the drivers on every clean install of XP?

thanks all.

Update:

Something i didnt point out, i assumed you guys would understand me i guess...

I do wanna install WinXP on my new Sata drive and replace my old ones.

so...yeah..

:)

    You have 2 questions

Question 1: will i need to load the drivers on a Clean first time install of WinXP SP2 from Floppy Disks??? Driver CD for my MoBo???

If you want to install WinXP, then one must have SATA driver for XP to recognize the SATA driver as a harddrive. This is because XP, being earlier technology, does not have the SATA driver. However, most new motherboard has BIOS that can force SATA drive to work as IDE drive. If one's ASUS has this facility in the BIOS to turn off the native mode, then enter into BIOS page to disable to native mode. In this case, one will not need to install any SATA driver.

If the BIOS does not have such native mode, then one must save SATA driver in either floppy or CD disk and use it when prompted to press F6 to install the 3rd party driver or RAID driver during XP installation.

The alternative is to "slipstream" the SATA drivers into existing and create a new XP installation disk as illustrate in the following website:

Question 2: will i need to always reload them on a clean install agian, and again....???

One will not need to reload the SATA driver if the BIOS has a facility to force SATA drive as IDE drive or if one has slipstreamed the SATA drivers in existing XP installation disk; otherwise, one must reload the SATA driver again, and again.

If your install disk doesn't have the sata driver in, then yes '' again ill need to install the drivers on every clean install of XP''

If you already have a PATA drive than XP will automaticly install to it. So keep the SATA as a secondary drive, no need to remove it during install.

BTW you can find the SATA drivers only at MS, they are generic.

Additional Info - if you are only using 1 SATA drive. Enter bios and disable all RAID controllers.

Asus boards SATA technology translates well With XP and you could install SATA drivers after XP has been installed.

If your running a RAID setup then most definatley hit the f6 key and install drivers during XP install.
