Elaborate 1st Birthday Prince Theme Party Ideas?

I am having an elaborate 1st Birthday Party for my son. His theme is Birthday Prince. My original budget was $1000.00. I have rented a hall that is fancy for $400.00. I have a budget of $400.00 for food. Balloons $50.00. Other Party supplies and decorations $300.00. Cake $50.00. A caterer would be about $700.00 and I am already over budget. So I planned on making some of the food myself. I wanted to have a buffet style dinner. Since it is Winter, I did not want to have picnic type food. I wanted to keep the food fancy, but simple. Considering my son is still eating baby food. I was thinking of purchasing a veggie and fruit tray, fried chicken, chicken fingers, rolls and making baked ziti. There are going to only be about 16 children, so I only have a pinata planned. Any other ideas?

Update:

I know he is not going to remember this party, but he is a very special gift from God and deserves only the best!

What are the favors for the children? Try personalized wrappers for candy bars with his picture on it. Those are always a hit.

    1st Birthday Prince Theme

My husband and I just want to our friends daughter's first birthday (this past saturday) and everything from the invitation to the cake was DISNEY PRINCESS THEME, specifically Belle, Snow White and Cinderella. I wish I still had the invitation so I can read off to you the words. It was so precious. The cake, as good as it was, when I first saw it, you just don't want to mess it up at all. It had a castle on it and it was so cool. April, the mother, got these plastic pink and purple cups (the word princess was on them) and the purpose of these cups were paper weights to hold down the table cloths (the party was outside in the backyard and it was somewhat of a windy day). Even the pinata was a castle, and because this is a birthday for a 1 year old, she just had to pull some strings and all of the candy fell out. I love disney (my picture of belle didn't give it away, did it) so I think this was a great idea, especially since this is their first child, she is a girl, so of course she (Samantha) is their princess.

If the other kids are also 1, they aren't going to have a clue about the pinata:) ... and that will entertain the older ones for about 10 min...... why not hire a magician? Maybe he could dress as a court jester, for the Prince theme..... You might do an appetizer tray for the adults: devilled eggs, canapes, mini quiche, crab dip & crackers

16 children will need a lot more than a pinata to entertain them. Ask a kid-loving relative be in charge of games.

Sounds like the party is more for you than for him... I think a 1 year old would like to be at home with just immediate family, in a nothing but a diaper so he could dive right into his cake. I don't think he cares about fancy halls, decorations and food at this stage in his life.
