Can you tell me how much I should expect to pay to have concrete work done?
I am having work done to add to my existing back porch. Not much area will be poured (approx. 24 feet by 4 feet--just shy of 10 sq yds). The first quote I rec'd quoted me based on 5 sack concrete mix, and was roughly $800.00.
I want to know what the cost was folks paid on their concrete work, based on the cost per square yard, and what tips they may have to offer me as far as questions i might ask of potential contractors.

I'd get more quotes. They will depend on where you're located.

The price here in Cali. is around $5.00 per square foot (not yard) for a 4" thick patio.
Make sure you are comparing apples to apples before you decide he's charging you too much. Is the concrete he's proposing 4 inch thick or thicker?
The best thing to do is to get more quotes (at leat 2-3 more) Contractor's these days are very competitive with the real estate market going down. Less work around.
