Bikram Choudhury (creator/namesake of Bikram style Hatha yoga, generically known as 'Hot' yoga) is said to be promoting the goal of having Hatha yoga become an Olympic sport.

This is fairly controversial in the general yoga community, since many consider Non-competitiveness a key principle of a Hatha yoga practice.

Apparently there have been international yoga competitions for at least the last four years (one site I found claimed sixteen**).

Per site referenced below*, international competitions must be held a minimum of five years before being considered for inclusion in Olympics.

Some think yoga will be included in the 2012 games.

    Namaste',

No it's not true and Yoga would never be an Olympic Sport.

No. Yoga is a method of excersise often used to cross train olympic sports, but will never be an olympic sport in and of itself.
