Can a 97 ford F-150 V-6 function properly with catalytic converter busted out?????? Please help.?

some cars have an o2 sensor befor and after the cat the the one befor the cat reads the exaust befor it enters the cat and the one after reads the change in the exaust gas after the cat

no it can not because the1997 seven started to use OBD2. and it uses o2 sensors to monitor the exhaust. there are two one cars that have obd2. one if front of the cat and one in back. the one iffront of the cat dertirmeines if the car is getting the right amount of fuel to burn perfect. and the one in back of the cat it to see if the cat did its job by turning all the nox gases into water and hydrogen dyoxicde. if the cat is punch then u will get a code and the "service engine soon" or the little yellow enigine light will come on. there for making it not be able to pass in specttion or run right.

Check ALL vacuum lines for cracks and repair them.Make sure the wires in the connector that connects to the map sensor have not backed out of the connector a little.You should repair the catylitic converter.You may need a oxygen sensor.Take it to a shop and have them fix it if you can.

yeah maybe check for a vacuum leak too. if you aint having power it does sound like a stoped up cat. just go ahead and bust out the honeycomb inside. your car will be a little stinkyer because the extra gas in the exhaust aint getting burnt up but it will work fine

If you don't have a converter on it, the O2 sensors will be flashing your check engine light and might adjust your gas and air mixture. GOOD LUCK

Do yourself a favor and get a new converter!! The vehicle will never run right until you do and it will NEVER pass an emissions test the way it sits now either.

If you remove the cat converter and you are in a state where they check your emmissions you will fail your inspection! You will have to replace it to get your tags renewed.

it could be the wire still only letting a little spark to go through also it could be your distributor cap if it has one or the coil could be out.
