Installed a new sound card into old HP, but still no audio. What's the issue?
The stock sound card (Riptide?) didn't work - no audio from speakers, headphones or CD rom - so I purchased a new Creative Soundblaster Audigy SE card and installed it. Still no sound!
I followed the instructions provided by Creative (uninstalled the old card and drivers, ran set-up, etc.), ran through all possible solutions in troubleshooting, and reinstalled everything, but still no sound.
How can I fix this problem?
System info:
HP Pavilion (XL 775)
Pentium III
797 MHz
512 MB RAM
OS=Windows XP Home Service Pack 2 (version 2002)
Language=English
Note: Tried to check audio in BIOS, but setup will not run when I try to reset computer and push Delete key (also tried F8 and F12).
Answers I am NOT looking for:
I DKN, just trying to get points
Turn your speakers on
Re-install software
Call Creative or go to www.creative.com
Go buy a new computer
Device manager does recognize the new card and there are no exclamation or question marks.
Nothing is muted, audio properties were the FIRST thing checked.
The BIOS setup is another problem I'm having, as my computer does not stay in the DOS reboot screen long enough to accept the F2 (or Del or F8) command key - i.e. the DOS screen flashes briefly then the system goes right the Windows XP boot screen.
Any thoughts on how I can access the BIOS setup?
Drivers were installed from the supplied software. As mentioned above, the card shows up in device mgr, so I'd have to assume the driver is installed.
Figured out that F1 is the magic button to get into BIOS setup.
When I went into BIOS setup, there was no audio option (looked under main and advanced, opened up the obvious sub-menus).
Is it hidden in a sub-menu?

ok clearly your smart enough to check drivers and all based on your post
did you check under audio device to see if the card is set as the default card ????
is the onboard audio turned off in the bios ?? (f2 on boot up)

Was there something that led you to believe it was the sound card?
Sometimes the solutions are the simplest ones. I would start by checking sound settings. Make sure nothing is muted...also, when testing to see if you can "hear" sound use the basic installed Windows sounds...not songs you may have downloaded or other files which may just complicate things....and remember with many sound cards their software may take over, so don't assume windows sound settings are being used...check both.

Remove the card and reboot. Shut down, reinstall the card and wait for windows to find the new hardware and install it. Make sure you have the id of the card to look for driver if windows cannot locate it. Not sure what software came with the card, but that is a surefire way to install.

did you check device manager?
if u did and u see the hardware with a yellow question mark then try to update the driver again.
and if there is no yellow question mark, and u r using winamp check winamp sound thinggy cuz if it is all the way off u cannot turn it on anywhere but in winamp

i think you need to download the drivers for your sound card, go to the creative web page and look for them, or go to microsoft webpage and on the update page, sometimes is just about the drivers.
