magnetic field from fridge affecting computer?

Hi, I live in a small dorm room and I have no other option but to put my desktop next to my mini fridge and microwave. The tower is sitting right by the pair on a desk, the fridge is on the floor next to it, and the microwave is almost level with it. Someone told me this could mess with my hard drive...?

1.) Will this hurt it?

2.) How can I help it?

Thanks for the answers

It could actually potentially hurt it, though it is unlikely. Just to be safe, you may want to back up some of your most important files on a flash drive or SD card.

Putting a few sheets of tinfoil on the side of your PC tower could prevent the situation as well. The fridge isn't of as much concern as the microwave is.

The farther away the better, but you're probably safe since your hard drive is probably in the front of the computer and the fridge motor is in the back.

What is more likely to cause a problem is having the computer on the same electrical circuit as the refrigerator, there can be power surges when larger motors start and stop. Make sure your computer is on a surge protector or better yet a ups that the fridge isn't hooked up to.
